Duluth, MN – October 7, 2016
The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Sisu Healthcare IT Solutions are pleased to announce their mutual intention to provide the MEDITECH inpatient electronic health record (EHR) as the newest application under AHIMA’s Virtual Lab (VLab).
VLab gives students access to state-of-the-art software regularly used in the health information management (HIM) profession. Lessons and activities designed specifically for VLab applications allow students to learn and test their skills without jeopardizing the privacy, security or integrity of real medical records to prepare them for future, on-site experiences.
“We are thrilled to add MEDITECH’s EHR into our VLab suite of products,” said AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, MBA, RHIA, CAE, FACHE, FAHIMA. “AHIMA is committed to investing in the VLab infrastructure to benefit students, faculty and academic programs across the country, and we’re so pleased to partner with both Sisu and MEDITECH in this venture.”
AHIMA’s goal is to build the VLab into the platform of choice for world-class experiential health information management and informatics education. To do so requires strong collaboration with vendors such as Sisu, who help bring applications into the VLab which are current, used in the real-world HIM practice environment and ultimately assure that students are well-prepared to enter the healthcare workforce.
“We’re excited to help support AHIMA’s goal of preparing the next generation of health information management professionals,” said Scott Lee, CEO at Sisu. “We’ve seen first-hand the need to develop talent in this growing field. Giving these students a safe, sandbox environment to learn with is crucial.”
“MEDITECH is proud to partner with AHIMA and Sisu to integrate the MEDITECH EHR within AHIMA’s VLab program,” said Melissa Swanfeldt, Associate Vice President of Marketing at MEDITECH. “By having first-hand experience with the MEDITECH EHR, students are provided a valuable opportunity to experience the impact EHRs have in improving the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care.”
Launched in 2006, the VLab has more than 200 subscribing colleges and universities and has been used by more than 10,000 students. A complete list of VLab applications can be found at: http://www.ahima.org/education/vlab.
