On October 23, 2019, Mike Kovala, was awarded The College of St. Scholastica’s Young Alumni Achievement Award for 2019. This annual award honors alumni, under the age of 40, who support the College with their time and/or talent, exhibit high achievement levels early in their careers, and live out the Benedictine values through service to others.

Mike is the Director of Business Development at Sisu Healthcare IT Solutions. He was hired as an Interface Engineer at Sisu Healthcare IT Solutions after graduating in 2008 and progressively moved into a role of Solutions Architect in 2015. He was promoted to his current position in early 2018.

Mike graduated from The College of St. Scholastica with a Bachelor of Arts in Health Information Management (HIM) in 2008 and a Master of Science in HIM in 2016. He earned professional credentials for a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certified Professional in Health Informatics (CPHI) through comprehensive exams.

Additionally, Mike often shares his expertise at regional and national professional events including the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). He serves on the HIM Undergraduate Advisory Committee at St. Scholastica. He is a mentor to HIM students through speaking in the classroom, hosting seniors in Professional Practice Experiences (PPE), and by creating opportunities for student internships at Sisu. Mike is also a mentor through NORTHFORCE, a Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin Mentor Connection Group. Here, he mentors college students as they begin working toward their careers.
